Nika and Emeka’s Woodland Fairy Tale Wedding

Tell us your story… I met my husband on a dating app called OK Cupid! I was in a season of my life where I felt very ready to be in a long-term relationship. Living in New York City, I found it very difficult to make a deep connection with someone I felt chemistry with (especially with similar faith and values). I decided to go online because several of my friends recommended it as a great way to meet people! I had been a member of the app for only one week when I met my future husband!

Where did you two tie the knot? Our wedding venue was Poetry Springs in Texas. We chose that venue because both of us have family that live in that area and we figured it would be easier for everyone to get together. Also having a wedding in Texas would be a lot less expensive than having it in New York.

Spill the details about your wedding!  The theme was ‘Woodland Fairy Tale Wedding’. I was very inspired by the deep jewel tone color scheme of the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda runway show. There were plenty of flowers and greenery… So romantic!

What was your favorite moment?  Saying I do to the man of my dreams.

A Gatsby Wedding- Lucy & Pierce’s 1920’s Inspired Celebration

Tell us your story… Pierce and I met in high school French class in Michigan. We stayed friends for years before starting a serious relationship later when we ended up at neighboring colleges in Missouri. Seven years later, we decided to tie the knot!

Where did you two tie the knot? Our wedding was at the gorgeous Felt Mansion in Saugatuck, MI. We knew we wanted to centralize our wedding in Michigan, where our story began.

We both love historical places, and this venue also fit our 1920s/Great Gatsby Wedding theme.

It was the perfect location to relive the decadence of the era that we wanted to reflect in celebrating our wedding, with our own version of a Gatsby house party!

Spill the details about your wedding! The wedding really did feel like a mansion house party in the roaring 20s! The mansion itself has been maintained perfectly with period furniture and required little additional decor. I chose glittery gold/black as the main theme colors, with blush and champagne tones complimenting throughout our decor. My girls wore sequined short dresses with a modern flapper feel, while the guys all wore black tuxes with blush vests/bow ties. Calla lilies completed my art deco look in our bouquets, the boutonierres, and the DIY centerpieces that I made for inside the mansion. My custom dress had so many gorgeous pearls on the back piece and sleeves that really completed the decadent feel that I was going for in the whole Gatsby Wedding theme. *I knew Alyson in college many years ago, and always admired her style and eye for design. I followed her growth and brand development on Facebook, and when I knew I was ready to shop for my wedding accesories, I reached out to her. I have always been drawn to unique style pieces, and I had a specific Gatsby bridal look that I was going for. Alyson created the most gorgeous 1920s headpiece and art deco veil for my ceremony and reception wear. I was absolutely thrilled with the results, and got SO many compliments on my accessories on my wedding day!

What was your favorite moment? I can’t pick a favorite memory! The whole entire day was my favorite. People came from all over the country to witness and celebrate our marriage, and everything ended up going so exactly perfectly that the day was absolutely a dream come true. From walking down the aisle to a perfect white chapel to marry my best friend, to guests taking selfies with a polaroid for our guestbook, to our dog Gatsby wandering out on the dance floor during our first dance, to the sun setting over the back porch of a gorgeous mansion filled with food, family and friends – there are too many great memories to pick just one!

From Elementary School to “I Do”- A Beautiful Outdoor Wedding

From Elementary School to "I Do"- A Beautiful Outdoor Wedding-

Tell us your story… We met in 3rd grade at Gilbertsville Elementary School! We started dating in 2006 when we were seniors in high school and we went to prom together :). Then we both {decided} to go to Penn State for college.  Now, ten years later, we’re married!

Where did you two tie the knot? Our wedding was at the John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove. I loved how beautiful and natural the grounds were, and the ability to have an indoor and outdoor wedding.

Spill the details about your wedding! The overall theme of the wedding was “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” meets “garden party”. Very summery, whimsical, light, and airy. The bridesmaids wore pale blush flowy floor-length dresses, and the groomsmen wore light gray tuxes. The flowers and decorations were all very natural/organic with lots of greens and pops of white. *I wore the most beautiful veil I’ve ever seen! I’ve been following Alyson’s work for years now, and I knew that I just had to have an original piece for my own wedding day!

What was your favorite moment? My favorite memory was probably having our ceremony outside in the apple orchard. It had been drizzling earlier in the day, but thankfully the rain had blown over come ceremony time! Our friend, Dan, was the officiant. He was able to make the ceremony very personal and warm. It was beautiful to share that with all of our closest friends and family!

Let’s Get Weird- An Enjoyable & Wonderful Wedding at Fox Hollow

Tell us your story… We met each other at a pool party that was hosted by a mutual friend. After we were introduced to each other, I (Luke) decided to throw Stephanie into the pool. It was a risky move, but it worked.

Where did you two tie the knot? We had our wonderful wedding at The Fox Hollow. We picked it because it is truly an amazing venue. The grounds are so beautiful and filled with perfect photo-op locations. The Fox Hollow is a great all-inclusive venue. We had the ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and accommodations all within 50 feet of each other.

Not to mention the staff at The Fox Hollow was incredibly friendly and extremely helpful.

Spill the details about your wedding! Stephanie picked the colors which consisted of coral pink and mint green. The bridesmaids wore a mix of both colors where the groomsmen wore black tuxs with mint green ties and coral boutonnieres. The flowers were a mix of hydrangeas and roses with pops of coral, green, and white. Since I am obsessed with Jurassic Park, we decided to give gold painted dinosaur figurines with potted succulents. They were a hit! *Stephanie bought her veil and bracelet from Alyson Nicole. She wanted a veil that was lightweight and thin so that the details of her wedding gown wouldn’t be hidden, and that is what she got. The pearl & rhinestone bracelet added just the right finishing touch.

What was your favorite moment? Honestly, the whole day was amazing. Our ceremony started at noon and even when the reception ended, the party kept going. The Fox Hollow has a great pool area where we had our afterparty. It was a full day filled with celebrations and we will never forget it!

Deciding on the right veil for your big day!

Accessories tend to be one of the last things brides-to-be think about. However, there are those brides that know exactly what they want the moment they said yes to the proposal. Sometimes, even earlier. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that but there’s a possibility of disappointment when the veil you thought you wanted doesn’t fit your frame or your dress. However, don’t be discouraged by this. It’s better you know your options before you accessorize.

Traditional VS. Birdcage
One of the trickiest things to decide about your veil is the length of it. Where do you want it to fall? Do you want a blusher with it? Or would you prefer a short birdcage style? These are very important questions. But how do you figure it out? Here’s a diagram explaining the lengths and options you have.
When picking the length of the veil, you always want to keep your dress in mind. Is the length going to cover up your details or is it going to add to your look? Is it going to affect how you walk down the isle or the hairstyle you want? Your hair accessories should always compliment your look, not take away from it.
The best way to be sure what veil works for you is to try them on. There’s no shame in trying multiple lengths and styles. It’s better you do that now then regret it on the day of. Another great idea is to have all your accessories by your first fitting. That way if you have to make any final adjustments you’ll have enough time.

Customizing the veil:
There are many different types of details you can add to your veil.
The hem:
  • Cut/raw edge… This hem is the most basic and has no details. However that doesn’t mean you can’t add your details somewhere else on your veil.
  • Rolled hem… This type of hem is commonly done with a satin trim. However you can also have a rolled hem with using the tulle itself.
  • Beaded hem… A straight or designed beaded pattern on the hem of your veil. This can also incorporate crystals and some extra bling.
  • Lace hem… A lace hem has many options based on the type of lace you want to use. There’s a wide array of different kinds of lace out there. Some are more detailed than others and can be decked out with beaded details. Then there are some that are simple yet beautiful. It’s best to discuss your options before purchasing a veil with this type of hem.
  • Scalloped hem… This type of hem is not straight but shaped. This can be done without any additional details or the scalloped edge could have a lace or a beading design to add to the shaped hem.
  • Birdcage veils are usually plain and either use diamond netting or a cut/raw tulle edge.
Now that we covered the hem, there is still the rest of the veil to discuss! Details can be added to various places but the most common areas to add details is right by the fastener. Here’s a small list of some options to think about:
  • Lace appliqué either plain or hand beaded
  • Hand beaded design to match your dress
  • Bows
  • Flower details
  • Feather details
Again, that was a very small list. The possibilities depend on your personal taste.

Why you should do a custom design:
The best part of doing custom accessories is that it brings that special something into your look. Whether it’s hand beading a design to match your dress or incorporating a part of your mothers wedding dress, having a custom veil just adds that one-of-a-kind detail that makes your wedding more memorable.
