Donna & Joseph’s Rustic Inspired Wedding

Tell us your story… We met in high school [Boyertown Area Senior High], during band practice back in 2005…. many moons ago!

Where did you two tie the knot? Lake of Isles Golf Club Resort at Foxwood Casino in North Stonington, CT. I  [Donna] chose the location due to the casino being convenient for out of town guests (half of the people who came to celebrate were from out of state!) and due to the beautiful deck that overlooked the lake and gorgeous scenery.

Donna & Joseph's Rustic Inspired Wedding

Spill the details about your wedding! We decided to go with a rustic-inspired wedding theme using grey and mint green as our main colors. We used burlap and lace accents along with crystal brooches to embellish all of our decor.  Table centerpieces were wooden crates that were handpainted & handmade (by the bride’s Aunt & Uncle) with floral arrangements that consisted of beautiful white hydrangeas with succulents and other greenery.  All bridesmaids wore mint green dresses in the style they prefered, matching hair clips & earrings. Groomsmen wore grey suits from David’s Warehouse with mint accents, and super hero socks & pocket squares which was made by the mother of the bride. I wore a beautiful beaded embellished strapless sweetheart a-line gown with matching jewelry & a bespoke rustic inspired wedding garter set made by Alyson Nicole. My bouquet was handmade by myself with burlap hydrangeas, an assortment of gorgeous brooches, and lace accents.

It was the perfect accent to our rustic inspired wedding theme!

What was your favorite moment? Announcing when we became man and wife. The excitement of finally becoming legally joined in front of all of our family and friends- them accepting, appreciating, acknowledging our love- was definitely the best part of our entire rustic-inspired wedding!

A Charming Summertime Barn Wedding

Tell us your story…  We met in late December in Philadelphia through mutual friends.  Maggie was fresh out of a relationship, and Ally was trying to set her up with her best friend…that last part never happened.  After a cross country road trip, followed by more than two years of long distance love, we made things final at the top of Observation Point in Zion National Park.

Where did you two tie the knot?  Our wedding was at Tinicum Park Barn in Erwinna, PA.  We looked at millions of places, from upstate New York to Virginia.  We wanted to be surrounded by beautiful scenery and Tinicum Park was just that.  There was a beautiful fern bed that we instantly fell in love with, and the surrounding land was perfect for pictures.  The venue was reasonably priced and everyone was more than accommodating during the process.   We really lucked out in finding this venue, and snagging the last weekend available for the year!

It was the perfect place for a outdoor barn wedding!

Barn Wedding

Barn Wedding

Spill the details about your wedding!  We tried to shoot for simple and laid back, just like us.  The colors of our wedding seemed like a no brainer to us.  Orange and gray, our favorite colors! The orange bridal party dresses made a wonderful pop of color along side the bright green of the grass and ferns, and gray was the perfect compliment.   The aisle,  lined with single stem orange flowers in bright blue wine bottles hanging from the end of a branch stake, led up to the oriental rug that we stood on next to the barn  To bring the ceremony together, we hung large ferns in the barn windows, Maggie’s favorite plant.

We feasted outside under the trees at the wooden picnic tables covered with off white runners.  Our center pieces were clear wine bottles filled with beach glass we had collected from the spot that I had proposed to Maggie.  We danced inside the barn, under large white lights strung along the rafters. Decorations included framed pictures from our many adventures, and each table had either a  large glass vases filled with branches wrapped in fairy light or a gray coffee can filled with ferns.

Our bridal party wore orange wrap dresses with navy sandals, which they accompanied with a silver mountain necklace given to them by the brides.  The other members of the party wore gray pants, white collared shirts, gray suspenders, an orange bow tie and navy shoes. They accompanied their ensemble with a bamboo wrist watch, also from  the brides.

What was your favorite moment? I think we can both agree without a doubt that it was the ceremony.  They were predicting severe thunderstorms and hail during the day, but we decided to risk it and hold the ceremony just outside the barn.  We had each written our vows to each other in a small leather bound journal.  Just as Ally was beginning to read hers, the sun broke over the barn and cleared away the dark clouds.  We stood there, in the bright sun, in front of family and friends and read our vows to one another for the first time. Through all the stresses of planning, and getting ready that morning, it was truly a moment in which everything around us melted away.  We laughed and cried our way through, along with everyone else.  You could feel the love and energy in the air, it was truly a magical moment, and we would do it again in a heartbeat.

A Tropical Wedding On Long Island

Tell us your story… We met at Harrah’s pool party in Atlantic City! I (Ali) was there for a bachelorette party and Jeff was actually there for a bachelor party. I saw him dancing and went right up to him and said “How is it that you’re a red head AND can dance?” He responded by saying “Yeah kid!”, and kept going.

Where did you two tie the knot? We had our wedding at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place, Long Island. The outdoor area, where we ended up having our cocktail hour, had palm trees, fountains, and fire pits which reminded us so much of being on a tropical vacation. At that moment, we were sold!

Spill the details about your wedding! We kept with the tropical-inspired theme of the outdoor patio and went with cobalt blue, jade green, and white with hints of Bermuda blue for our color palette. The men wore a traditional black tux with bow ties and suspenders. The ladies complemented the groomsmen by wearing either a jade green or cobalt blue dress with Bermuda blue Swarovski jewelry. Beautiful flower bouquets and arrangements consisted of white calla lilies and roses with pops of blue orchids. For our music we had a flutist playing Metallica during the ceremony, a live reggae band at cocktail hour, and a DJ/band combo for our reception.

It truly felt like a Tropical Wedding!

What was your favorite moment? Besides becoming Jeff’s wife, I’d have to say that having everyone you love from all around the world in one room at the same time smiling and enjoying themselves was our favorite part. Nothing will ever top that!

Nika and Emeka’s Woodland Fairy Tale Wedding

Tell us your story… I met my husband on a dating app called OK Cupid! I was in a season of my life where I felt very ready to be in a long-term relationship. Living in New York City, I found it very difficult to make a deep connection with someone I felt chemistry with (especially with similar faith and values). I decided to go online because several of my friends recommended it as a great way to meet people! I had been a member of the app for only one week when I met my future husband!

Where did you two tie the knot? Our wedding venue was Poetry Springs in Texas. We chose that venue because both of us have family that live in that area and we figured it would be easier for everyone to get together. Also having a wedding in Texas would be a lot less expensive than having it in New York.

A Gatsby Wedding- Lucy & Pierce’s 1920’s Inspired Celebration

Tell us your story… Pierce and I met in high school French class in Michigan. We stayed friends for years before starting a serious relationship later when we ended up at neighboring colleges in Missouri. Seven years later, we decided to tie the knot!

Where did you two tie the knot? Our wedding was at the gorgeous Felt Mansion in Saugatuck, MI. We knew we wanted to centralize our wedding in Michigan, where our story began.

We both love historical places, and this venue also fit our 1920s/Great Gatsby Wedding theme.

It was the perfect location to relive the decadence of the era that we wanted to reflect in celebrating our wedding, with our own version of a Gatsby house party!

Spill the details about your wedding! The wedding really did feel like a mansion house party in the roaring 20s! The mansion itself has been maintained perfectly with period furniture and required little additional decor. I chose glittery gold/black as the main theme colors, with blush and champagne tones complimenting throughout our decor. My girls wore sequined short dresses with a modern flapper feel, while the guys all wore black tuxes with blush vests/bow ties. Calla lilies completed my art deco look in our bouquets, the boutonierres, and the DIY centerpieces that I made for inside the mansion. My custom dress had so many gorgeous pearls on the back piece and sleeves that really completed the decadent feel that I was going for in the whole Gatsby Wedding theme. *I knew Alyson in college many years ago, and always admired her style and eye for design. I followed her growth and brand development on Facebook, and when I knew I was ready to shop for my wedding accesories, I reached out to her. I have always been drawn to unique style pieces, and I had a specific Gatsby bridal look that I was going for. Alyson created the most gorgeous 1920s headpiece and art deco veil for my ceremony and reception wear. I was absolutely thrilled with the results, and got SO many compliments on my accessories on my wedding day!

What was your favorite moment? I can’t pick a favorite memory! The whole entire day was my favorite. People came from all over the country to witness and celebrate our marriage, and everything ended up going so exactly perfectly that the day was absolutely a dream come true. From walking down the aisle to a perfect white chapel to marry my best friend, to guests taking selfies with a polaroid for our guestbook, to our dog Gatsby wandering out on the dance floor during our first dance, to the sun setting over the back porch of a gorgeous mansion filled with food, family and friends – there are too many great memories to pick just one!

From Elementary School to “I Do”- A Beautiful Outdoor Wedding

From Elementary School to "I Do"- A Beautiful Outdoor Wedding-

Tell us your story… We met in 3rd grade at Gilbertsville Elementary School! We started dating in 2006 when we were seniors in high school and we went to prom together :). Then we both {decided} to go to Penn State for college.  Now, ten years later, we’re married!

Where did you two tie the knot? Our wedding was at the John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove. I loved how beautiful and natural the grounds were, and the ability to have an indoor and outdoor wedding.

Spill the details about your wedding! The overall theme of the wedding was “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” meets “garden party”. Very summery, whimsical, light, and airy. The bridesmaids wore pale blush flowy floor-length dresses, and the groomsmen wore light gray tuxes. The flowers and decorations were all very natural/organic with lots of greens and pops of white. *I wore the most beautiful veil I’ve ever seen! I’ve been following Alyson’s work for years now, and I knew that I just had to have an original piece for my own wedding day!

What was your favorite moment? My favorite memory was probably having our ceremony outside in the apple orchard. It had been drizzling earlier in the day, but thankfully the rain had blown over come ceremony time! Our friend, Dan, was the officiant. He was able to make the ceremony very personal and warm. It was beautiful to share that with all of our closest friends and family!

Let’s Get Weird- An Enjoyable & Wonderful Wedding at Fox Hollow

Tell us your story… We met each other at a pool party that was hosted by a mutual friend. After we were introduced to each other, I (Luke) decided to throw Stephanie into the pool. It was a risky move, but it worked.

Where did you two tie the knot? We had our wonderful wedding at The Fox Hollow. We picked it because it is truly an amazing venue. The grounds are so beautiful and filled with perfect photo-op locations. The Fox Hollow is a great all-inclusive venue. We had the ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and accommodations all within 50 feet of each other.

Not to mention the staff at The Fox Hollow was incredibly friendly and extremely helpful.

Spill the details about your wedding! Stephanie picked the colors which consisted of coral pink and mint green. The bridesmaids wore a mix of both colors where the groomsmen wore black tuxs with mint green ties and coral boutonnieres. The flowers were a mix of hydrangeas and roses with pops of coral, green, and white. Since I am obsessed with Jurassic Park, we decided to give gold painted dinosaur figurines with potted succulents. They were a hit! *Stephanie bought her veil and bracelet from Alyson Nicole. She wanted a veil that was lightweight and thin so that the details of her wedding gown wouldn’t be hidden, and that is what she got. The pearl & rhinestone bracelet added just the right finishing touch.

What was your favorite moment? Honestly, the whole day was amazing. Our ceremony started at noon and even when the reception ended, the party kept going. The Fox Hollow has a great pool area where we had our afterparty. It was a full day filled with celebrations and we will never forget it!

V & Z NYC -A Rainy Summer Wedding in Central Park

Tell us your story… Zac is an actor and he was in a play my friend had tickets for. My friend knew the playwright, so after the show we all went out for food and drinks, which is when Zac sat next to me in our booth and asked how we liked the show. He helped himself to my french fries as we got to know each other. We’ve been together ever since.

Where did you two tie the knot? Central Park. I wanted a place in NYC, since this is the city where we met and fell in love. I also wanted a location that I could always go back and visit, with our kids someday, and when we [grow] old. Central Park will (hopefully) always be there.

Unlike restaurants and event centers in NYC which turnover all the time, Central Park felt right.

It’s an iconic NYC location and a place Zac and I love to go to with our dog, Simon.

Spill the details about your wedding! We wanted a pretty casual, yet elegant NYC wedding. Since [the ceremony] was outside in the park we played with that idea [by] using a food truck as our caterer and paper plates to give it that picnic in the park feel, even though our reception was in a dance studio downtown. I’ve always loved black and white, so those were our colors with a splash of gold. Our flowers were Dahlias since they are big, beautiful, and in season. *I purchased my [gold] veil from Alyson Nicole, [who] I met in college. I remember her talent shining though as a fashion student and I knew she would be the perfect fit to make my wedding look come to life.

What was your favorite moment? One of my favorite memories was when a student of mine texted me in the morning. It was a complete surprise and reminded me how happy I am in my life, working a job that I love, marrying the man that I love, and surrounded by people that I love. I also loved my daddy/daughter dance, which we started slow and ended with a fun choreographed number to my fav, Taylor Swift. One of our friends surprised us with a limo at the end of the night which was fun surprise that we shared with our close friends and family.

Say Yes To The RIGHT Dress- A Guide For Wedding Dress Shopping

Recently, I had an exciting and extremely emotional day shopping for a wedding dress. Not only did I try on wedding dresses but I got to be the bride. I’m so used to creating bridal accessories and apparel that it was such a great change of pace to be on the other side.

From the moment I saw the big window displays, I knew that the experience I was about to have made getting married a reality. Even though I’ve planned our whole wedding and secured almost 80% of the details, going wedding dress shopping made it real. Like really real.

I went into Kleinfeld’s with hopes of figuring out what dress style would look best on my figure. I already knew what I wanted but needed to be sure. (I had sketched the design immediately after he proposed to me, couldn’t help myself.) Needless to say, I didn’t expect it to be as hard as it was to say “No”. Especially when they had almost exactly what I sketched up. What are the chances??

Trying to make a decision on whether to buy or to make was unbearably difficult. I had the bridal moment in the store. They took me to the main room, “jacked” me up, and even gave me a bouquet. I said “Yes” when they asked me. I was surrounded by tears from my family, myself, and from people I didn’t even know. It was totally my dress and as soon as I said “Yes” out loud, I thought “What the f@$! did I just say?”. Everything was pointing to yes, even the freaken price tag. It was a $4,000 dress marked down to $999 because it was the last dress available. The dress was in my size. I would have to take it in only slightly and repair a little bit of the illusion on the back, but no big alterations.

Everything and everyone wanted me to buy that wedding dress.

Within the twenty-some feet back to the dressing room, I realized that if I were to buy this beautiful wedding dress, it wouldn’t actually be MY dress. I wouldn’t have designed it. I wouldn’t have carefully picked out the fabric. I wouldn’t have spent hours drafting the pattern. I wouldn’t have had the late nights sewing and cursing at my machine. It would just be a dress that I bought and I would regret the fact that I didn’t make it.

So… after at least 40 minutes sitting on the dressing room floor discussing what to do with my mother, sister, and 3 phone calls to my fiancé, I decided that the dress was not for me. It was a hard choice, but the right decision… For me anyway.

Each one of us is unique and we all have our own tastes but when choosing your wedding gown, its extremely important that you pick a silhouette that properly accentuates your figure. Some silhouettes are extremely versatile, while others are less forgiving when it comes to hiding problem areas. Let’s be real, we all have those areas we want hidden on this special day.

So, before you make your appointments at Kleinfeld’s or at a cute bridal shop in town OR ask Alyson Nicole to make you a very unique bespoke wedding gown… do your research to figure out the silhouettes and styles you want to try. Keep in mind that its very possible that the dress you think you want is not the dress for you. Take a deep breath because its just not the one. Don’t force yourself into loving a wedding dress either. If you don’t have that moment or you have any hint of doubt, move on.

Below are some of the many options out there.

A-LINE DRESSES are slim on top, fitted at the natural waist, and softly flares away from the body. Flatters most body types by creating a slimming effect while accentuating your waist.

BALL GOWNS have a fitted bodice and a full skirt that can range in volume and length. These classic gowns work with most body types for average height to tall women. It is a very forgiving style due to the skirt hiding everything below your mid-section. If you are a shorter bride, this may not be the dress for you since the bottom might overwhelm your small frame.

MERMAID DRESSES are fitted from the torso down to the knees and then flares out to the floor. The mermaid silhouette is ideal for tall, slender brides and voluptuous brides who want to show off every curve.

FIT-AND-FLARE or TRUMPET DRESSES are fitted from chest to mid thigh and then flares out to the bottom. This silhouette is another style that will flaunt your curves in a very flattering way.

EMPIRE DRESSES are fitted at the bust and flare out to the ground. This wedding dress silhouette is an extremely versatile style for most body shapes due to the forgiving high waist line.

SHEATH, SHIFT, OR COLUMN DRESSES have a narrow shape that flows straight down from the neckline to the hem. Depending on the designer, this silhouette can be either be slightly fitted or not at all. This silhouette style is a timeless classic that looks best on brides that have lean frames and soft curves.

Below are some options of necklines, sleeves, and train lengths to consider when wedding dress shopping!

Wedding Dress Silhouette Glossary
Wedding Dress Neckline Glossary
Wedding Dress Sleeve Glossary
Wedding Dress Train Glossary

As mentioned before, the above options are extremely helpful to know when you are wedding dress shopping. There are also a few more things to keep in mind:

  1. BUDGET… Its extremely important to have a set budget that you can afford. It is also very important to let the attendant know your budget!  One of the worst things you could do is fall in love with a dress that is over your budget. Also, keep in mind that alterations (always needed) and taxes should be kept in mind. Alterations are never included.
  2. THE WEDDING DRESS YOU THINK YOU WANT, MAY NOT LOOK GOOD ON YOU and that is OK. That style wasn’t meant for you but there is a wedding dress out there that is. Even if it has to be custom made, cough cough.
  3. HEMLINES DON’T HAVE TO TOUCH THE GROUND you have more options. Tea-length hems stops below the knee but above the ankle, while the mini is usually above the knee and a bolder choice. There are also high-low hemlines that add a little bit of drama to the hemline and can go as high as you want.
  4. DON’T FORGET ABOUT ACCESSORIES they help tie together your look on the big day. Try on different options and see which one(s) you like best. Its possible that you might go for a veil instead of a flower crown but its best to try on options with the dress you are buying. If you can’t find any accessory that strikes your fancy, remember that bespoke accessories, made by yours truly, is another great option.
  5. HAVE FUN! This is the MOST important part of it! This should be an enjoyable experience and no one should stop that. Drink some champagne (if they offer it) or go out to lunch before/after and celebrate the experience. Whatever you do, just enjoy it!
